International Women's Day 2024: ThermoBreast contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 Gender Equality

UN SDG 5 stands for United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. This goal specifically aims to eliminate discrimination and violence against women, ensure access to reproductive health care, promote equal opportunities for leadership and economic participation, and protect women’s rights globally. EU-funded projects are expected to contribute to this goal as it aligns with the EU’s values of promoting gender equality and human rights. By supporting projects that address gender inequality and empower women and girls, the EU is working towards creating a more inclusive and equal world. These efforts not only benefit women and girls but also contribute to the overall development and progress of society.

On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the achievements of women and advocate for gender equality. In ThermoBreast, we are dedicated to contributing towards one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals – SDG5 Gender Equality, by providing accessible and affordable breast cancer screening. One of the main goals of the ThermoBreast project is to make breast cancer screening more personalised, accessible and affordable for women of any age and ethnicity. We believe that this will not only help to reduce the gender gap in access to healthcare but also empower women to take more control of their health and well-being.

But our commitment to SDG 5 goes beyond providing a needed service. In the ThermoBreast project, women are actively involved in the development and implementation of the ThermoBreast solution, promoting gender equality in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). By ensuring women’s participation and representation in STEM fields, we try to break gender stereotypes and pave the way for equal opportunities for women in traditionally male-dominated fields.
